Abundant Harvest of 'Ruby,' Joyful Collection of Roselle

Written by Qianzi

December 7, 2023

Roselle exhibit a vibrant red color when their petals mature, resembling sparkling rubies when illuminated by sunlight. Renowned for its beauty benefits and health properties such as promoting blood circulation, replenishing blood, detoxification, and regulating blood pressure and sugar levels, Hibiscus is often hailed as the 'ruby' of the plant kingdom.

The Roselle harvest this year resulted from collective efforts in sowing the seeds early in the year. I recall the lively scene when sister Jiao'e and Baichuan first arrived at the Thai branch, initiating a joint endeavor to dig pits and sow the seeds for the extensive cultivation of roselle. From germination to growth, flowering, and fruition, we provided minimal care, only watering during the initial seedling stage and sporadically weeding. To our admiration, every piece of land yielded plentiful roselle fruit, showcasing the high quality of 'grass-fed, milk-produced' produce. We cut the branches laden with fruits, facilitating transportation back to the restaurant. We then peeled the fruits directly from the branches, enhancing efficiency. The members from the mango orchard also joined forces, contributing to a lively atmosphere as we completed tasks like cutting, peeling, washing, and drying, followed by distributing  to Abbot and the temple.

Ahliya, an American girl, discovered our community online and reached out through the Lifechanyuan International Family website. Excited by the community's distinctive feature of no marital families, she decided to experience it. Despite her online university courses limiting her full-time participation in community labor and life, she occasionally helped Yangle in the vegetable garden. Ahliya had a positive experience in our community, before leaving, she expressed that our community exudes happiness and joy every day, unlike some other communities she had encountered, which felt a bit somber. She also extended gratitude to Yulin for the delicious meals.

In these days, we are preparing compost in Longpao, and we are helping collect weeds and transport cow dung.Labor purifies the soul, and collective labor brings family members closer, fostering a harmonious, intimate atmosphere among us all.
