According to the contents of the *Notice of the Right to Retain Defense Counsel / Apply for Legal Aid During the Stage of Review and Prosecution* issued by the Linzhou People’s Procuratorate, document number **Anlin Prosecution Notice / Legal Aid Application (2025) Z10**, the notice states:


> “Our procuratorate has received from the Linzhou Public Security Bureau the materials transferred for prosecution in the case of Xiao Baofa and 13 others for using superstition to undermine the implementation of the law. Pursuant to Articles 34, 35, and 278 of the Criminal Procedure Law of the People’s Republic of China, you are hereby informed that you have the right to retain defense counsel. If, due to financial hardship or other reasons, you are unable to do so, you may apply for legal aid.”


Based on the contents of the above document, the basis for the arrests of the Chanyuan Celestials initiated by the Linzhou Public Security Bureau, with the assistance of the Anyang Public Security Bureau, beginning on July 2, 2025, was the allegation of **“using superstition to undermine the implementation of the law.”**


The subsequent year-long persecution of the Chanyuan Celestials has also been carried out around the same accusation: **“using superstition to undermine the implementation of the law.”**


As long as we can prove, on the basis of relevant United Nations laws and Chinese laws, that the Chanyuan Celestials did not **“use superstition to undermine the implementation of the law,”** the truth of this case will become clear.
